Just a short while back before the weather started to warm here, I was kept busy planting a hedge.

The majority of this stretched out across the longest boundary of the back field, and if you haven’t seen the intro video for the site, you may want to watch that also to get a bit of context.

I gave the planting here a fair bit of thought.
I’d spent a good amount of time prior thinking about what I might like to plant on the site as a whole, and this hedge felt like the perfect starting point. Planting bare roots was an ideal job for the winter, and where better to begin than at the outer edges?

Perhaps this hedge felt like such an important job to me because it’s been the first major planting effort that I’ve made on the site.
After many years of dreaming up my own mini version of Eden, this felt like a huge surge of momentum for putting things in to action. And I’ve continued to be busy with the planting ever since (more on that soon).

I’ll be using this site to demonstrate much of my thinking for Winglewood.
I’ve emphasised how I feel the connections between everything in our lives should be given greater focus. Connections between ourselves and the stuff we use. The people we live around. With nature.
And I’m forming a great number of ideas of how I can take practical steps to better explain what I mean by this.

Following my journey of planting and development at this site will not only be focused upon gardening. Although there will be plenty of that.
I’ve decided to start keeping a bit of a video diary of what I’m working on here. I’ll share some thoughts on my thinking, my plans and show you how thing’s are coming along.
‘The Hedge’ video below, is where it starts.
